Should You Buy Realme 9 Pro Plus? In-Depth Review

The Realme 9 Pro+ is the latest addition to the massive and baffling range of smartphones by Realme. Since its origination, Realme has been famous for its core models in its number series. As of January 2022, Realme 9i was the first product introduced by the company.

Following this first launch in 2022, we all expected Realme 9 and 9 Pro, but the Realme 9 Pro and Realme 9 Pro+ have taken the charge. According to smartphone enthusiasts, Realme 9 Pro+ is launched to compete directly with mid-range smartphones such as Xiaomi’s 11 and the OnePlus Nord series.

In this article, I’ll tell you about my 10 days’ experience of using Realme 9 Pro Plus. Let’s read more to uncover what’s new about the Realme 9 Pro+, and does it deserve the higher price tag?

Realme 9 Pro+ Design and Feel

Color-changing smartphones, like the Realme 9 Pro+, are currently stealing the hearts of smartphone buyers. The phone is currently launched in three color variants which includes Midnight Black, Aurora Green, and Sunrise Blue. Among them, only the Sunrise blue demonstrates variable color shades in the sunlight.

Nowadays, it is not easier to find smartphones with compact finishing. However, the Realme 9 Pro+ phone boasts a compact design and comes equipped with a glass build quality. Adding an extra edge to that, the compact design makes it easier to use even single-handedly.

It gives a premium feel in hand, the Realme 9 Pro+ switches from a glossy sky-blue to maroon color under sunlight, thanks to Realme’s version of the same color-changing process.

Aside from the fingerprint-prone glass, the glossy finish didn’t look that appealing to me. It is built with a polycarbonate frame sandwiched amidst two sheets of glass. In addition to being thin (7.99mm), the phone weighs only 182g, which makes it comfortable to use with one hand.

Display

The display of Realme 9 Pro+ comes is appointed with a hole-punch front-facing selfie camera separately cut out at the corner of the screen. It has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

A fingerprint reader is integrated into the display, and the Realme phone can also measure your heart rate.

There is also a 90 Hz refresh rate and top-of-the-line color processing included. The mobile screen will allow you to enjoy many different kinds of on-screen content from all types of viewing angles.

However, in this price range, Realme should have offered at least a 120 Hz refresh rate as compared to other options available in the market. Even many of the competitors are already offering a 120 Hz refresh rate in the price range of 20 thousand Indian Rupees.

Performance

There are a few sensible decisions made by the company in areas that matter even if you don’t have the most aggressive specs. This smartphone offers excellent photographic performance in daylight as well as low-light conditions, a rare feat found among smartphones in this segment. It also features an OIS system for stabilizing the primary camera.

In addition to the Dimensity 920 SoC, the MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC is also a strong performer. The display refresh rate can only switch between 60Hz and 90Hz. Only 60Hz and 90Hz can be selected for the display refresh rate. While it stays at 60Hz when playing games, it jumps to 90Hz when browsing from the phone’s interface.

Moreover, both of its stereo speakers fail to offer a balanced sound output. You can also watch my video where I’ve played demonstrated the performance of its stereo speakers. When using the touch screen on this smartphone, you will get a premium feel because of the Haptic feedback. As with other flagship smartphones on the market, this smartphone’s on-screen fingerprint scanner responds quickly, as well.

Even while gaming, I didn’t experienced any heating issue in the smartphone. However, its UI still needs some improvement but it is also much better than the previous models of Realme. A slick Realme UI 3.0 runs seamlessly on Android 12 out of the box. The battery life of this smartphone is satisfactory making it worth every penny.

Battery

The Realme 9 Pro Plus is built with a 4,500mAh battery which is quickly rechargeable, thanks to its 60W type C charger. I liked the battery backup of this mobile but one thing which looked very weird to me is that you cannot watch Netflix on it in HDR picture quality.

Camera

In the Realme 9 Pro+, the 50-megapixel primary camera supplants the 108-megapixel camera of the predecessor. The device also features optical image stabilization (OIS) but it doesn’t deliver an impressive output. Neither is it just about any sensor. It’s a Sony IMX766, which is usually found in more expensive phones.

In addition, there’s a 2-megapixel macro camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. A 16-megapixel selfie camera takes care of selfie duties. The front camera fails to maintain color saturation but it performs satisfactorily in low light conditions. The phone camera still needs improvement, especially in daylight conditions.

Conclusion:

Should You Buy Realme 9 Pro Plus? It might seem like the Realme 9 Pro+ and the 9 Pro have similar specifications, but their hardware choices clearly place them in different categories.

In reality, the Realme 9 Pro is actually a more attractive phone than the 9 Pro+. It comes at a price of Rs. 17,999 and features a 120Hz refresh rate display, a 5,000mAh battery, and a 64-megapixel primary camera.

Realme 9 Pro+ offers a more advanced primary camera sensor and improved OIS, as well as an AMOLED display that reproduces deeper blacks. So, despite their similar pricing, the audiences for these two phones should be quite different. Gamers will find the Realme 9 Pro of interest, while those looking to shoot better photos will find the 9 Pro+ of interest.

OIS and the high-quality sensor included in this smartphone’s primary camera make it stand out among other smartphones in this segment; they have good performance in daylight and low light, which is not offered by most phones in this segment.
