Secret tips to buy a used iPhone like a pro:
1st secret tip to buy an old iPhone – Original Screen or Aftermarket Screen
How to check whether the display of your purchased used iPhone is original or its installed aftermarket?
Every iPhone whether it’s a brand new or used iPhone comes with a TruTone feature that adapts the screen brightness accordingly.
If your used iPhone screen is replaced with the original Apple supplied screen then you will see True Tone feature option active. But, if you don’t see active True Tone feature then chances are that your old iphone screen is replaced with a duplicate or aftermarket iPhone screen.
How to check True Tone active/inactive in your used iPhone?
Turn True Tone on or off
On supported models, True Tone automatically adapts the color and intensity of the display to match the light in your environment.
To check whether the True Tone is active or inactive do any of the following:
Open Control Center, touch and hold the Brightness button, then tap the True Tone button to turn True Tone on or off.
Go to Settings > Display & Brightness, then turn True Tone on or off.
2nd secret tip to buy an old iPhone – Identification from Model Number
By looking at its model number, how can I identify whether it is a new iPhone or a refurbished one?
iPhones with model numbers beginning with the letter ‘M’ are factory fitted used iPhones without any modifications. If the model number begins with letter ‘F,’ it’s a carrier-refurbished model, and when it begins with letter ‘N,’ it’s an Apple Replacement iPhone.
There is a difference between this model number and the one that starts with the letter ‘A’ on the back of the iPhone.
It is easy to find the model number of your iPhone. Scroll down to the Model section of Settings > General > About. Using this setting, you can determine whether your iPhone is new or refurbished. Check if iPhone is New or Refurbished:
M – your iPhone is new
F– your iPhone is refurbished (refurbished by Apple or a carrier)
N – your iPhone is an Apple replacement phone
P – your iPhone was personalized with engraving
A model number is also visible in the SIM tray slot of newer iPhones, such as the iPhone 8 and higher. Look under the SIM tray after removing it.
