Ice Cream Sandwich OS is Available for Nexus S Now

Google’s much awaited mobile operating system Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0 is now available for Nexus S smartphone. It had announced rolling out its latest Ice Cream Sandwich for its previous flagship handset, the Nexus S via Twitter. The OS prior to this was only available on Galaxy Nexus. The tweet stated that Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0 will be available in Nexus S handsets using GSM/UMTS beginning from December 17.

How to update to Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0

As per Android Police reports, this update is over the air and that apart from the OS upgrade, the Microsoft giant has also offered tips on ways to start with the Ice Cream Sandwich. Get started with ICS update by downloading OTA package and renaming it as update.zip and copying it to roots of internal storage. Switch off the device once done and then reboot it to the bootloader holding both the power and volume up button.

Choose the recovery option. After this, press power button for confirmation. Hold power button when warning triangle appears and then press volume up button. Following this, a menu will pop up. In this menu choose apply date from the sdcard option and then select update.zip from list. Then the update will take place.

Once it is over, choose reboot system. Following the reboot process, the OS will be available on one’s Nexus S. Presently; Ice Cream Sandwich is only available on Galaxy Nexus as well as Nexus S. People are eagerly waiting for its availability in devices like Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note.
