Aakash, world’s cheapest tablet is all set to become a hit among social start-ups and students. Datawind, maker of the low-cost tablet has announced a contest especially for students in which their best applications shall be fixed at the Ubislate, $35 tablet’s commercial version which is slated to hit stores next year.

Datawind has received bulk supply order of the low cost tablet from institutions and private schools. The company believes that the collaboration between Datawind and NASSCOM Foundation will help to bridge digital divide in the country. Here are 5 reasons why Aakash will turn money spinner among students.
1) Selected applications of students will be pre-burned in numerous tablets, which will be shipped by Datawind.
2) Ubislate will be available at a truly affordable price of Rs. 3000 and will bundle with internet access data plan of Rs 99. It will boast of GPRS transceiver.
3) It will turn a money-spinner for students receiving royalty from the application usage on the tablet and thereby also gain by providing their users a useful application. Five students coming up with winning application of world’s cheapest tablet will each be given approximately Rs 1 lakh.
4) The visionary thinking of Datawind will enable organizations and individuals to go beyond what they have achieved from broadband internet and computers and thereby connect them via mobile connectivity, spontaneous touch screen interface among other features which are appropriate for non-profits.
5) Social sector organisations too will benefit from this low-cost tablet. Nasscom, India’s software lobby has joined hands with Datawind and will hand out 200 tablets to NGOs (non-government organisations). They have also announced a contest where 10 lucky NGOs can win around 20 tablets each for chiefly improving programme and operations implementation.
