iPhone 4S costs Rs 44,500 in India via Airtel and Aircel

Airtel and Aircel has officially announced to launch iPhone 4S in India for Rs 44,500. The price of this handset will be much expensive in India compared to other places in the world.

Airtel and Aircel also announced the price of iPhone 4S which is comparatively higher compared to the previous generation iPhone 4. They have priced 16GB and 32GB variants at a price tag of Rs 44,500 and Rs 50,900 respectively.

In fact, every Apple product in India costs higher compared to US, Hong Kong and Singapore. Unlike iPad and Apple PCs, the iPhone does not offer international warranty as its warranty is only valid in that country where the handset has been purchased. In this regard, experts stated that such price difference is likely to result in the gray markets resurgence, which in India had largely disappeared because of pricing parity by major handsets in the last few years.

However, both Airtel as well as Aircel executives declined to comment. Voicing his opinion on the matter, an industry executive stated that the 4S is mostly in demand among internet savvy customers, who took cues of price from other markets.

Despite few online shopping sites like ebay offering 10% discount on the price of iPhone 4S in the country, yet customers are fuming on the higher retail price of the device in India compared to the US.
