Google is finally aware of South Sudan’s Independence two months later and has off late included it in the Google Maps. The independence at South Sudan took place on 9th July, 2011. Google among others is the first to follow this update.

On the one hand Google changed Martyr’s Square’s name in Tripoli almost overnight on August post Libyan rebels recapturing it while on the other hand it took two long months to finally be aware of South Sudan’s independence.

But it is indeed a much difficult task to draw a nationwide border compared to changing a city square’s name. Compared to other search engines, Google’s response was vague as it is committed to offer its users the most up-to-date and richest maps possible and in the process they incessantly discover methods to incorporate latest information in the Google Maps.

However, Google Maps is the first to recognize the independence at South Sudan. Bing interestingly being the first to act in response to the inquiries of South Sudan independence this summer is yet to change their map service.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated that they are presently working to come up with a solution to make sure that customers can temporarily trace South Sudan at Bing Maps. Yahoo has not yet responded with comments.
