With the withering of demand of BlackBerry handsets, Research In Motion’s prospects now depends on its next generation BlackBerry’s.

RIM’s 7 inch PlayBook tablet faced a tough competition in the market from rival companies Apple and Samsung Electronics. Apple’s iPad had crushed the sales of RIM’s PlayBook tablet.
The company faced criticism for launching a tablet devoid of instant messaging, dedicated e-mail and Netflix movies.
This year RIM is planning to ship around 1.5 million tablets compared to 39.2 million tablets for Apple and 7 million tablets for Samsung as stated by an analyst of Canaccord Genuity, Michael Walkley.
He added that the company has not yet given up the PlayBook tablet but it is off to a meager start. This will automatically create a massive pressure on the latest BlackBerry handsets.
Last week the PlayBook forecast for 2012 was lowered by Walkley from 2.2 million to 1.5 million. On the other hand, an analyst of Robert W Baird & Co, William Power reduced his 2012 estimate from 2.45 million to 2 million.
This week, an analyst of Raymond James, Steven Li cut down his PlayBook forecast from 4 million to 2.4 million.
