Olympus aims to double market share by 2017

Digital giant Olympus has unveiled its PEN series cameras with an aim to double their market share in the country by 2017. The PEN series cameras is now available in three versions—PEN, PENLITE and PEN mini as well as Olympus PEN E-P3.

Apart from the PEN series cameras, the company also launched binoculars and other versions of cameras. Two categories of binoculars were launched—Leisure and Professional. The former will be available within a price range of Rs 1,999-6,999 while the latter will be available within a price range of Rs 8,999-19,999.

The company also introduced a series of other cameras including XZ, SZ, and SP focusing on Digital single-lens reflex (DSLR). The XZ series comes with 10 pixel, 4X optical zoom and F1.8-2.5 lens and will be available at a price tag of Rs 25,999. The SZ series on the other hand is an apt camera for travel and sports.

It comes preloaded with slim, ultra and powerful optical zoom and will be available within a price range of Rs 15,999-23,999. To add to it, Olympus also launched Hardy series of digi cameras Tough 3000, 6020, and 8010. These cameras are shock proof and water proof and come with mono metre and GPS. It will be available within a price range of Rs 13,999-19,999.

Toshio Murai, Managing Director of Olympus Imaging India Pvt Ltd. stated

with the successful worldwide launch of the PEN trinity series of cameras along with a couple of worthy launch of the camera series they are looking forward to achieve significant development on sales in the past 2 years in both tier two as well as tier three cities. He said further Olympus’ future strategy is to raise brand awareness via movie associations, strengthening its servicing and extending its dealer network.

Bishwarup Mullick, Deputy General Manager stated

Olympus’ area of competence was opto-digital technology and alongside Nikon, Sony and Cannon, Olympus was the only company to have their own lens in their cameras. The PEN series cameras are likely to replace professional camera.
