Nokia to introduce low budget handsets below Rs 6,000

Nokia is looking forward to introduce handsets below Rs 6,000. At present, Nokia has approximately 30-40 models of handsets out of which 10-15 are below Rs 6,000. Head of service marketing Nokia, Mr Jasmeet Gandhi stated media persons this Wednesday that their goal is to turn more competitive towards the sub Rs 6,000 segment.

As per the latest research conducted by Nielsen it was found that there has been a drastic change in the manner in which consumers are surfing the internet via their mobile handsets. This research had been conducted on over 3,000 respondents from 8 cities across India.

Out of the 3,000 respondents, 82% use Nokia handsets for surfing the net including chat/email and access to social networking sites. Majority of these users surfing the net via mobile are youngsters. Nokia is gearing up to introduce more and more new models equipped with entry level technology thereby concentrating on cell phone internet users.

Mr Gandhi added that the low budget handsets, which will be available below a price tag of Rs 6,000 set to come, preloaded with Series 40 (S40) platform to offer users access to web-based applications. The percentage of internet users in the country is rising by 300% each passing year. People’s usage pattern and requirement from a handset has undergone a complete change.

Till last year people were interested in the brand, price tag, FM and other features while buying a handset but as per the latest survey more and more people are eager to buy handsets which offers access to browsing the net and not merely email.

These days type of format whether QWERTY or touch-screen as well internet connectivity has become people’s first priority while choosing a handset.
