LG has joined hands with Philips and Sharp for ramping up the production of smart TV apps. The trio will jointly contribute to manufacture software development kits. LG stated that such collaboration has taken place for the first time in the internet powered or smart TV sector.

This partnership is likely to have a significant impact on television manufacturers, apps users and developers. Their technical requirements will rely on open standards namely HTML, HbbTV and CE-HTML. This offering may attract other giants such as Sony, Apple and Google, who have their respective offerings.
They are likely to offer ideas for making the development process easier and simpler, while at the same time trying their hands to improve the user experience. At present, television manufacturers are witnessing a fall in consumer demand for television units.
This initiative taken by the trio—LG, Philips and Sharp is followed by another renowned television brand Samsung which is planning to cut down their television production by 80% prior to the year end and instead thereby making its upcoming developing lines to manufacture smaller display units utilised in smartphones and tablets.
President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, Havis Kwon stated that this cooperation between LG, Philips and Sharp is not less than a turning point in the history of smart televisions.
He added that by joining hands with two innovating television brands, they have taken a foremost move in establishing an app market as dynamic and inventive as the existing smartphone market. The software development kits’ beta version is likely to be launched in the first half of October.
