Best Buy cuts down RIM PlayBook tablet price

Good news for Research In Motion fans as the price of their PlayBook tablet has dropped by $150 and $50 respectively. Best Buy has cut down the price of the 64GB version of the PlayBook to $549, the 16 GB to $449 and 32 GB to $549.

The Big-box retailer has put up an advertisement on their website stating that they will offer this discount to advertisers from Thursday to Monday. So far RIM has not yet disclosed the picture of PlayBook sales wise except that it has given a hint of the estimates of its previous sales.

The company had shipped 500,000 units of PlayBook tablets as has been revealed in June and will not report back till the 15th of the running month.

This tablet PC is ultra-light and ultra-portable and is pre-loaded with a host of interesting features such as orientation lock, 1 GHz dual core processor, multitasking, Bridge feature, media, maps, GPS, in-built games, 7” HD capacitive screen, multi-touch, Wi-Fi connectivity, and 1 GB memory. The list does not end here.

It also includes other features such as rear and forward cameras, 1024 x 600 pixel resolutions, Micro HDMI port, and Micro USB among others. A tough competition among 7” tablet PCs is on its way.

The competition includes the 7” Samsung Galaxy Tab which has been launched last year is available at Best Buy at a price tag of $279 while the 7” Lenovo IdeaPad A1 will be available in two versions of 8GB and 16GB at a price tag of $200 and $250 respectively.

The launch date of A1 has not yet been disclosed.
